When you don’t know what to wear, just go double something – it always looks like you’ve made an effort. White on white is instant minimalim chic; Print on print is an effortless statement outfit. In fact, all over any colour works, black on black, pink on pink… Double denim is one of those things that used to be ‘against the rules‘, but as it turns out, breaking the rules is irresistibly exciting. To be more accurate, this is more a chambray on denim outfit. I never feel the need to shop chambray shirts retail, because I feel like all the best chambray stuff that will ever be made has already been made, so I always prefer to find mine vintage or thrifted. This one is from Miss Brown Vintage, purchased at Sydney Fashion Weekend.
What accessories to pair with a double denim outfit? Personally I think it should all be kept pretty simple. I’m wearing my vintage sling back mules, an op-shop find from Vinnies. I generally find the shoes of yesteryear to be too unfamiliar to really attract my attention, like those ultra square toes or flared heels. However, these mules just happened to be everything I was looking for, simple, structured, and a classic kitten heel (check out my Mule Shopping Guide for my edit of all the best mules right now). Since I started with one black accessory, I followed through with my Proenza Schouler PS11 – the little black bag.
Just between you and me, this outfit will also be appearing in a little announcement Canberra’s Hustle & Scout Twilight Fashion Markets will be making tomorrow! The Hustle & Scout market is on next Saturday 5 July – will I see you there?
